It’s that time of year again to dress like a leprechaun and grab your lucky charms.  St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most celebrated holidays and has become more so throughout the years.  It’s a day that everybody claims they have a little bit of Irish in them and brings family, friends and people of the community 
together.  
    As we celebrate another year, have a drink for not only yourself but for the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick.  The St. Patrick’s Day parade here in the states, especially in NY, has become a well-known aspect of the holiday.  In 1762, when Irish soldiers were stationed here in the U.S. they wanted a way to connect to their roots.  The Irish along with the English soldiers feasted and celebrated their culture.  As the years progressed, the St. Patrick’s parade has become highly celebrated by people from all walks of life.  Many parades have been created throughout Long Island to help spread the cheer of St. Patrick.
    Instead of heading to NYC to celebrate, partake in the numerous parades being held right here on the Island.  Whether you plan to travel from Montauk to Rockville Centre, enjoy being Irish for the day and be sure to continue the party at these authentic Irish Pub and Restaurants.  Drink responsibly and enjoy with family and friends.  

Montauk Parade:  

If you can’t make it to NYC or are looking for a change of scenery, come to the second largest St. Patrick’s Day parade on Long Island. The 54th annual parade is being held on Sunday, March 20th at 11:30. Starting at 10am on the green, the Montauk Chamber of Commerce will be serving hot clam chowder in a St. Patrick Parade souvenir mug. Montauk’s finest clam chowder will be donated by some of the best local restaurants.  Hosted by Montauk Friends of Erin, the parade will begin on Edgemere Road and will run to the IGA on Main Street.  Get your Irish attire ready and take the trip out east for an afternoon of fun with family and friends.

This authentic Irish Pub and restaurant has been located in Montauk Village for over 28 years.  Best known for their signature Irish country dishes such as: Irish Lamb Stew, Breaded Flounder and The Murphy Burger.  Anybody who wants to continue the festivities after an afternoon at the parade, be sure to stop by O’Murphy’s Pub and Restaurant and own up to their motto – “Come in a stranger…leave as a friend”.

Huntington Parade:  

Huntington’s parade has become the oldest and largest 
parade on Long Island. They will be celebrating their 82nd annual parade on Sunday, March 13th at 2pm. The parade route will begin just north of the Huntington train station along New York Avenue before heading west onto Main Street ending at St. Patrick’s Church. Due to its popularity throughout the years, the parade will consist of over 25 marching bands and bring together up to 50,000 residents and patrons to celebrate.

Owned by Lessings. The oldest pub in town still maintains its appeal with their lively bar crowd which locals flock to especially on St. Patrick’s Day. Finnegans is a great pub and restaurant if you’re looking for old-fashioned Corned Beef Reuben and Beer Battered Cod.  They will be serving that along with other specials on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th.

A great hot spot after the parade, Mary Carroll’s Pub and Beer Garden.  Open since 1997 in their Babylon location, it wasn’t until 2007 the Huntington location came to fruition. With their unique furniture and decor imported straight from Ireland, an exensive whiskey list; this is the place to frequent.  Especially on St. Patrick’s Day.
