We all want to believe that spring will be early this year which also means that there isn’t much time to get your home ready after our strange winter weather.  Two brothers and their 99 year old mom opted for a novel solution. They were planning a major kitchen renovation which included removal of walls and windows in a house filled with “stuff” accumulated over many years.  There was no place to pack and put anything away and with Mom at such an advanced age, there was no place to put her, as well!
So – they bought another house!  Strange as it may seem, it was really the best solution. The new cozy three bedroom ranch with garage and full basement was the perfect place to start fresh and unencumbered. The plan was to set up the new house with new furnishings, bringing only what was needed to keep Mom comfortable and living well during the older home’s renovation.  Then one brother would go back to the newly renovated house with Mom while the other would remain at the new location, close enough for Mom to visit and equipped for her to stay over whenever she chose.
With the help of Vinnie, our wonderful Organizing Guy and furnishings from Uniquely Natalie, the new house was set up within a week and Vinnie could concentrate on helping pack up, throw out and give away the necessary items to prepare for the contractors to come in and begin the three month long renovation at the first house.
Don’t you sometimes wish you could just move out and start fresh when your stuff overwhelms you? Most of us can’t, but dealing with the situation is not impossible. Ask yourself the same questions Vinnie asked our two brothers. What do you really need? What can someone else really use? How long is long enough to keep stuff that is no longer of value? Even if you physically are not able to clean up your act yourself, you still have no excuse. You can’t decorate until you clean up, throw out, or give away and organize, and there are professionals ready, willing and truly capable of doing it for and with you.
Spring is coming, make your plan, get help if you need it, and enjoy the fruits of your labor once it’s done – and think of a wonderful Mom enjoying her new home on her 100th birthday!
