Beyond flowers, Gabriella’s has quickly become a local favorite for all things festive, providing everything you need to make every season or gathering memorable.

Founded in April 2024 and named after Phil’s daughter Gabriella, the nursery has blossomed into a year-round hub for horticultural excellence. Gabriella’s offers home décor, gifts, firewood, holiday items, and a full-service florist. A true family business, Gabriella’s draws on over 70 years of combined experience from the Patti family’s other ventures—Dom’s Landscaping and Domco Lawn Sprinklers in Garden City Park, managed by the Patti family’s eldest sister, Michelle Patti-Farino. Patriarch and proud papa, Dominick, states, “We don’t know everything, but we know enough! When my kids were growing up, they truly believed their last name was ‘Landscaping!’”

At Gabriella’s, every floral arrangement is a testament to the artistry and passion of master designers Lori and Nancy. Specializing in personalized wedding arrangements, parties, and thoughtful memorials and tributes, they pour their devotion into creating stunning bouquets, centerpieces, and tributes that beautifully reflect the unique essence of the occasion. With an ever-evolving selection of fresh flowers, plants, and decorative accents, Lori and Nancy craft floral expressions that add depth and meaning to life’s most significant moments. Whether you’re celebrating a joyous milestone or honoring a loved one, Gabriella’s ensures each design captures the perfect sentiment with beauty and care.

“Our team is the heartbeat of Gabriella’s,” says Lori. “From Kathleen, our skilled horticulturist who ensures all our plants are grown with care, to Karen, who handles our digital landscape renderings and designs, to Jorge and Marcelle, our knowledgeable nursery associates who are always ready to help customers find what they need, and finally, Courtney, our brilliant buyer who selects all our trees, shrubs, annuals, and perennials… Every member plays an essential role in bringing our vision to life, and I couldn’t do this without them every day.”

Known locally as the “Glass Dome House,” Gabriella’s is more than just a florist—it’s a community hub. Jorge states, “It’s incredibly rewarding working with the Patti family. Their commitment to revitalizing and maintaining this landmark and space for the neighborhood is inspiring. It’s a place where people can come and enjoy nature, one another, and I am so proud to be part of that.”

This holiday season, Gabriella’s features a wonderful array of items, from Christmas trees and wreaths to cemetery blankets and poinsettias. The Patti family also invites you to bring the kids for a holiday photo with Santa—an annual tradition that adds extra magic to the season. “We love seeing families gather together here,” says Lori. “It’s all about creating special moments, and we’re honored to be part of that experience.” So, if you forgot to press the submit button on your holiday card order, mark your calendars for December 14th and 15th for the perfect photo op.

Foodie Vue: Halston American Kitchen and Bar of Melville

400 Broadhollow Rd., Melville | 631-755-5777
thehalstonrestaurant.com

Anthony Scotto, serial entrepreneur, and innovator of many well known restaurant brands like Insignia, Blackstone, and Rare 650 has once again met the demand of the consumer at large. Welcome the all new Halston American Kitchen and Bar of Melville. Located on the main level of The Rubies building, this lavish space is humming with excitement and for good reason.

Today’s informed diners want options and plenty of them. Once taking a peak at their online menu, I was ready to go find out what all the buzz has been about. Halston’s menu is diverse that appeals to a broad spectrum of foodies who want everything from a delicate cut of fish to a bountiful NYC tavern style burger. When I go out to dine, I have my mood swings and that is exactly what Halston American Kitchen and Bar caters to.

I dined at The Halston recently and would like to share with you what we experienced. To start, the Spinach & Artichoke dip is not your typical pub style app. The spinach was incredibly fresh with the right balance of mozzarella, parmesan, and cream cheese served with homemade tortilla chips. The fried calamari and cherry peppers with its tempura coating delivered a nice crispy texture and with a chipotle aioli, it was simply addictive.

Following suit before our entrées we shared a dish of Halston’s Rigatoni alla Vodka. A tomato-based vodka sauce with a generous helping of parmesan cheese gives this trendy dish that savory comfort food feel with a gorgeous-silky finish.

For our entrées, my partner opted for the parmesan encrusted broiled cod. Served with green beans, almonds, and cherry tomatoes, it was artfully presented, perfectly cooked and not over seasoned, that allowed the flavor of this delicious fish to come through. Contrasting my partner’s choice, I was all in for the whiskey & truffle burger. A good size, 1/2-pound patty with a hint of whiskey was topped with cremini mushrooms and caramelized onions. At a perfect medium rare with its rich beefy flavor, it was everything you would expect from a top shelf NYC steakhouse.

Though we had our fill, The Halston PB&J dessert was calling and with that we decided to go in. A rich, peanut butter mousse chocolate cake with layers of raspberry and strawberry jam was accompanied by a scoop vanilla. One word…Wow!

From their signature salads, handhelds, burgers, and tacos… to the sushi, seafood and pasta you will not tire of Halston’s diverse menu. Delivering a refreshing and creative menu, the all new Halston American Kitchen and Bar is ready to satisfy whatever mood you’re in.

Private dining rooms are available for social or corporate events. During the warmer months the outdoor terrace is the perfect setting for evening cocktails and alfresco dining under the stars.

PS. Next time, I’m going for the brown butter warm lobster on a warm brioche roll umm … see you there!!

Out & About: Central Park Edition

There’s No Place Like HOME for the Holidays

Holiday time is upon us and there is an abundance of joyful and festive things to do just a hop, skip, and a jump from Long Island. Central Park is the crown jewel of Manhattan, and during December it hosts a myriad of wonderful activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Wollman Rink located at the south end of the park at 63rd street is open from October to March. Skate and locker rentals are available 7 days a week including holidays. Click on wollmanrinknyc.com for hours and ticket prices.

Fancy a bit of shopping? In December, the northeast corner of Columbus Circle turns into a lively winter market. It features aisles of gifts and jewelry as well as foods from local artisans. The market has been a tradition for more than a decade and is open daily throughout December. Hours are Monday to Saturday 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Sundays from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

It’s always a good time to visit the Central Park Zoo! The famous Delacorte Clock near the Zoo at 68th street rings seasonal chimes and nursery rhymes every half hour. Built in 1965, it features a band of animals including monkeys, a penguin, a hippo, and a kangaroo. In December, these charming sculptures play holiday favorites such as “Deck the Halls,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Chanukah, Oh Chanukah!”

Last but not least, the beautiful and historic Tavern on the Green Restaurant at 68th Street and Central Park West will host their annual tree lighting on Monday, December 2nd. It’s a community event with Christmas carols and warm cookies—a great way to kick off the holiday season and enjoy a cozy evening at the restaurant. Tavern on the Green will also be hosting Holiday Brunches every Saturday and Sunday through December 29th. The restaurant will be fully decorated for the holidays starting the Friday after Thanksgiving, with the festive atmosphere continuing through the first week of January.

A chic new addition to Smithtown’s shopping scene is here!

Apricot Lane Boutique, owned by local resident Christine Martin, has quickly become the go-to destination for fashion-forward women. With its carefully curated collection of the latest trends, personalized service, and a welcoming atmosphere, the boutique offers a unique shopping experience that has quickly captured the hearts of style enthusiasts in the area.

Since opening, the boutique has redefined the shopping experience for women of all ages. Offering a stunning array of popular name brands like Paige Jeans, Another Love, Line and Dot, Six Fifty, and Poppy & Pout, Apricot Lane caters to every need, from chic date-night dresses to cozy casual outfits. Christine’s favorite part of the job? Watching a customer step out of the fitting room with a smile, saying, “I think I like this!” For her, these genuine moments of joy and connection are the heartbeat of her business.

“Our goal is to make every customer feel welcomed and valued,” says Christine. “We want to create an environment where people can take their time, explore our collections, and know they’re in good hands with our knowledgeable and friendly staff.” Whether customers are looking for an outfit for a special occasion or a new staple for their everyday wardrobe, Apricot Lane ensures each visit is enjoyable and personalized.

What sets Apricot Lane apart is not only its independent spirit but also its strong connection to a larger mission. While the boutique operates independently, it is part of a franchise that has been supporting local communities and customers across the country for over 30 years. Christine is especially proud of Apricot Lane’s partnership with Noble Venture Designs, a nonprofit organization in Cambodia that provides job opportunities for survivors of human trafficking. This collaboration has created employment for artisans in several countries, including Nepal, India, and Vietnam, allowing them to create handcrafted beaded and wax cord bracelets and accessories, which are sold in Apricot Lane Boutiques across the U.S.

“When I learned that the franchise model allowed me to choose my own clothing lines, design my own store, and support a global cause, I knew this was the perfect opportunity,” says Christine. “This store represents who I am—my designs, my vision, and my passion for fashion while supporting both local and global communities.”

Christine’s husband, Simon, also played a key role in bringing the boutique’s vision to life. From installing beautiful plank flooring and custom-built cabinets to crafting the flower wall that’s now a signature backdrop for social media photos, Simon’s craftsmanship is evident in every corner of the store.

At Apricot Lane, the mission is clear: to offer something for everyone. “When I curate the collections for the store, I think about my mother, daughter, and grandmother,” says Christine. “Every age and style, so every customer feels seen and included.” Christine adds, “My dream is to one day pass Apricot Lane down to my daughters, not just as a business, but as a legacy—a piece of me through my love for fashion and my commitment to giving back, something they can carry forward with pride.”

Publisher’s Letter: Looking Ahead

With a New Year approaching, it’s time to begin thinking about bringing new energy back into our businesses. How we can motivate our employees to deliver more value to our customers is essential. The growth of your business can only come by learning from past experiences that provoke new ideas to remain competitive.

Top of mind is, “How do we increase sales?” Finding ways to build more business is fine in its place, but the reality is, it starts with what you already have. Here are just a few pointers that can help bring clarity to your 2025 game plan.

Leadership
For many of us, our business has grown to the point where we can no longer be in front of every customer. As a result, your staff now becomes a more vital part of your company. Their attitude toward their job and you, as a leader, will reflect back to your customers. Do everything you can to keep your employees engaged and share with them your vision. Motivate, inspire, and show your appreciation for their hard work – you’ll get it back tenfold. Demonstrate interest in your staff. Help your employees develop their abilities. Make them a greater asset to themselves and your business. Happy employees means happy customers.

Customer Relations
Treat every customer as if they were the most important person on earth. You know, in the same manner you expect to be treated. Your customers will become loyal to you and will be glad to give recommendations. Growing your business begins with holding onto what you have first.

Value
Deliver value to your customers. Give them a reason to come back to you. I don’t mean give stuff away; I mean real value – excellent service. Become a trusted advisor in your line of work, that will create a stronger bond of trust. Create emotional connections with your customers to make their experience with you and your company memorable.

Project a Positive Attitude
Smile a lot. You think I’m crazy, right? It is amazing how people react to a happy face. Your attitude toward others is delivered to your customers with your facial expression. How important you make them feel begins with a smile. When a customer enters your store, smile and greet them like family and you will see what I mean. If they don’t react to your welcoming demeanor, just keep smiling. Eventually, killing them with human kindness will be impossible to resist.

Yes, we all want to make more sales, but stop thinking about it in those terms. Put your energy into the things that will ultimately impact your ability to make more money – by earning it! Work harder on you, your staff, and existing customers. If treated with appreciation and respect, your employees and your customers will bring you toward building a more efficient and profitable business in 2025.

Wishing Everyone An Amazing Holiday Season!

Fashion & Beauty: All That Glitters

Holiday Fashion Trends of the 2024 Season

When you think of holiday fashion trends, do you think beyond the red and green standard? I truly look forward to seeing the glitz and glamour of each season – and 2024 is no different. One thing you will notice is that everywhere you shop, whether online or at traditional brick and mortar shops, holiday wear is readily on display along with the usual winter fare. You will likely browse from jeans to sweaters to sequins for your most festive holiday occasions. Styles this season range from sleek to flashy, ensuring there is something to choose from no matter your style tendencies.

Sequins are not just available this season; they are veritably standing on a platform shouting to be your selection of the day. From short dresses to full length, pencil skirts and splashy tops, fully sequined pieces are being shown in black, silver, red, and even ombre shades.

Lavish is the feeling you’ll get in any of the fabulous velvet finds you will see in black, red, green, teal or soft brown (with just a hint of gold). From dresses to jumpsuits to short jackets, velvet will elevate your look for the season and may even keep you feeling a bit warmer as the temperatures drop.

Open back blouses and dresses are a popular option for holiday wear this season but be careful not to get a chill. Dresses abound in either sleek midi length or full-length maxi dresses (they’re not just for summer anymore). Add a pair of the season’s over-the-top statement earrings for a fabulous look that is very on trend. Faux fur is back again – as anything that cozy should be – as a popular option to top it all off.

What colors should you expect to see as you put your holiday looks together? In addition to bright red, deep oxblood red is a fashion favorite for many designers this season. The color is both rich and luscious and is complemented by the beautiful shades of makeup being shown for the cold weather season. Prefer something softer? Winter white is your must-have color for winter and the holiday season. Try a short sweater dress in winter white with a smashing pair of just-to-the-knee length boots in the matching color. Truly, you will be a vision in white.

Silver and gold are, of course, in style for the holidays. But don’t expect them to be limited to accessories. This season, they will be in a starring role as a shimmery dress or flowing pair of slacks. Shall I mention black as a featured color this season? It is as it should be. There would be no LBD without the B. So be sure to pick up one that makes you feel unstoppable.

Whether you will be curling up and comfortable or attending the ‘it’ party for your social circle, be sure you are dressed for comfort and in styles that suit your body type. If you feel good, you will look good. Enjoy all the parts of the season that fill our senses and look great doing it.

Happy Holidays to you and yours
