Mother's Day may be just around the corner, but there's still time to spoil a mom in your life with a personalized gift you can make on your own. It is guaranteed to look wonderful no matter your skill level and be one of her favorites for years to come. Scout’s honor. Ok, I haven't been a scout for decades, but I'm sure it still counts. Hot beverages are all the rage today. Flavored coffee, herbal tea, hot water with lemon, whatever mom’s drink of choice may be, it surely tastes better when served in a lovely cup. So this holiday, instead of another bouquet of grocery store flowers, why not give mom her very own tea cup and saucer filled with a few special treasures that you know she’ll love? The steps are so simple that even kids can help with this one. First you need to find a tea cup and saucer you think mom would love. If you’re short on time and a traditional shopper, I recommend heading to the home decor aisle of your favorite store. If you’re a bit more adventurous, I’d stop by your local thrift shop. Unique and antique tea cups are plentiful and generally available for a dollar or less. Once you have your tea cup in hand, you’ll need to decide what you want to put inside. I fill mine with a variety of tea bags and a few sugar packets or cubes. For Mother’s Day, you could also add a vintage napkin or hankie, a gift card to a store or spa mom enjoys or a note with an invite to spend some time together at dinner, shopping or even tea! Fabulous. When everything is neatly arranged inside the cup, wrap it with clear or tinted cellophane and tie it up with a wired ribbon. Choose a color that coordinates with your cup and for a little sparkle, you can tie a spoon to the bow. Spoons are another one of those items that you can pick up at the thrift store for a song. Even if they were pretty. Happy Mother’s Day! |
