Luso by Luisa Batista, who has 25 years experience in the restaurant business. Having run a successful family restaurant business in Mineola, she has branched out on her own to create a fabulous new dining experience for the Smithtown area.

Luso is a Portuguese wood-char barbecue restaurant, or “Churrasqueira”, as it is known in Portuguese. This style of wood char-grilling is prominent in the Bairrada region of Portugal which is where the Batista family descended from. At Luso, our goal is to provide a unique, unparalleled dining experience, comprised of wholesome wood-fired BBQ food, with the utmost attention to quality, service and hospitality!” explains Luisa. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting and it is the perfect venue for getting together with family, friends or business associates.

The specialty at Luso is the BBQ chicken. Marinated and basted with their mouth-watering, secret basting sauce, it is then fired on the rotisserie over wood briquettes to a succulent golden bronze. The chicken can be ordered in half or whole servings, for one or two people and is served with choices of salad, rice, fries, their famous home-made potato chips and steamed broccoli with carrots. It makes for a great take out dinner for the whole family. The other specialty of the house is the Rodizio; a combination of all-you-can-eat meats such as beef cubes, pork cubes, turkey wrapped with bacon, spare ribs, short ribs, chicken legs, sausage, skirt steak and London broil. Served on skewers right off the grill, Rodizio also comes with a variety of sides such as black beans, vinegarette, sautéed collard greens or fried bananas. There is also a delicious assortment of grilled fish dishes as well such as salmon, swordfish, tilapia, shrimp, calamari and cod fish.

Luso is open every day for lunch and dinner, 11:30 am to 10:30 pm. They have great lunch specials and everything on the menu is available for take out. It makes for a wholesome, healthy and hearty meal when you don’t feel like, or have the time to cook.
