Halloween has never been my favorite holiday when it comes to decorating. I think it stems from the fact that I don’t like to be scared. Horror flicks and haunted houses are not my thing, I’m more of an enchanted castle kind of gal. So I guess it stands to reason that I don’t want to deck my rooms out in skeletons for a whole month.

However, I do like to dress my home up for the holiday. So what's a girl to do when the stores are stocking ghosts and ghouls? Well, DIY of course and what better way to decorate for Halloween than with glittered pumpkins.

It’s a super quick and inexpensive DIY that will add a touch of elegance to your Halloween house without any of the fright. Whether you feature one as part of a centerpiece or toss a few of them on your hearth, they are guaranteed to stand out.

And it seriously could not be any easier to do. All you need is a pumpkin, or a few, some glitter, glue and a paintbrush. This craft does get messy though, so you may want to work outside or over the sink or a large piece of newspaper.

Now I used white glitter, because that’s what I had on hand and it worked really well. However, you could match your glitter to your pumpkin color for an extra pop. After all, pumpkins come in lots of colors, orange, white, green…and so does glitter.

I used a small orange pumpkin. I began by applying a thin layer of Elmer’s glue with a bristled brush, to small areas to ensure even coverage. Then I just sprinkled the glitter on and moved on to the next area. I didn’t go crazy worrying about missing spots, any imperfections in coverage were camouflaged by the shine.

When the entire pumpkin was complete, I set it aside to dry. That’s it. Close up it looks like a diamond encrusted orange gem. It catches the light and glows beautifully. Like Cinderella's coach. Dreamy. Which is exactly the way Halloween should be. In my opinion anyway. How about you? Do you decorate with glam or gore?
