It's difficult to find good BBQ on Long Island. Some of my favorite culinary adventures to date have been Southern cuisine. I'm talking "Shrimp and Grits" and "Nashville Hot Chicken". My most recent trip to Louisiana solidified my love for all things BBQ, reminding me of the beauty that lies within simplicity. The latest gastronomic brainchild engineered by the folks at Vauxhall, is necessary. Not only is it necessary, but a truly magical dining experience. Chef, and partner, Michael Meehan's passion is evident through the menu selections and overall culinary style. Fried Green Tomatoes, Hush Puppies, Nashville Hot Chicken, and so much more. Upon entering RADIO RADIO, you're digging the atmosphere. It's familiar, yet eccentric. One of my favorite things about these restauranteurs is the emphasis on detail. Everything from the silverware, to the glasses, to the wall art is hand selected. Nothing is there to merely fill space, instead, the details tell a story of the establishment and the passion project that is RADIO RADIO. My guest and I enjoyed the Hush Puppies, Green Tomatoes, and Grilled Caesar to start. With Meehan in the kitchen, I always know what I'm getting. Exciting flavors, exquisite presentation – dishes that keep me on my toes. For our main course we shared brisket, ribs and the Nashville Hot Chicken. My friend Sean, a frequenter of Southern Cuisine at his Grannie's house, is excited about the Hot Chicken. I personally prefer the brisket, with a side of mac and cheese. Seriously good. Pro tip? Ask for the sauce caddy. Try the mustard. It's unreal. If you don't have time for a bite, opt for a drink at the bar. The drink menu here is just as worthy of discussion as the food. As a self-proclaimed cocktail officianto I consider this team of bartenders and managers one of the best on the Island – if not the best. Think seriously inventive concoctions, whether you order on the menu or inquire about a one-of-a-kind creation. Although their juleps are buzz worthy, I prefer the Smoked Bourbon Old Fashioned and Southern Strawberry. If you like well crafted cocktails, I suggest you visit this place as soon as possible. I've been lucky enough to acquaint myself with the folks behind RADIO RADIO for about a year now. They are good guys, who value great food. It's so refreshing to enjoy a pleasant dining experience with friends, but more so, to know that I can whole-heartedly recommend this establishment to friends and family and rest assured that they will love it. If you're looking for something new, or feel like switching it up, or maybe you just love BBQ – head to RADIO RADIO in Huntington. You won't be disappointed. |
