While the academy prepares individuals for competitions, most of the staff are dedicated to working with children, setting positive examples, and fostering successful futures. “Teaching them that failure is okay is crucial,” Kathryn notes. “You will fail, but it’s about how you get past that failure and turn it into victory.”
In addition to regular classes, Smithtown Ninja Academy is the perfect venue for unforgettable birthday parties. Kids can enjoy an hour of obstacle training led by professional staff, followed by time for food and celebration. Kathryn became the first franchisee to open a Ninja Academy in Freeport in 2020, followed by the Smithtown location in 2022. Since then, she has faced significant challenges, including closures due to the pandemic. While the Freeport location has sprung back stronger than ever, the Smithtown Academy is still working hard to regain its footing. “It’s been phenomenal to see our Freeport community grow,” she reflects. “I truly hope to see the Smithtown Academy come back to life; it breaks my heart knowing how many lives we can touch.”
For Kathryn, success has taken on new meaning. “Now, it means being happy and making others happy, making a difference in the lives of over the 300 children we serve,” she states. The academy’s motto, “Together, we will overcome all obstacles,” captures its spirit of resilience and the idea that the skills learned here extend far beyond the training floor.
